About Pilates
Joseph Pilates saw that the modern person was not exercising enough and leading a more sedentary life, therefore the Pilates exercises are meant to counteract upon the effects of the modern lifestyle; so for example if your back hurts from sitting too much Pilates will stretch what is tight from sitting and strengthen the areas in your body that help support you to sit.
The work focuses on core strengthening and stability to free up areas that are pain centers in the body. Pilates teaches you to strengthen the weaker small muscles in order to counterbalance the already strong and sometimes overpowering large muscles, so that the body can become balanced, eliminating injury from exercising or overuse in day-to-day life.
Pilates is meant to be one-on-one because there is a lot of attention to detail making each session unique to the needs of your body. Session will include the mat and reformer (a specially designed machine to expand on the floor work concepts).
Pilates is a great pair to any type of exercise practice you do (i.e. yoga, dance, running, swimming, gym etc), as well as improves the way you move when you’re at home, working, or even playing with the kids. Some of the improvements are:
